Basic Domain Names FAQ

What is a Doman Name?
  • A domain name identifies a website or email on the Internet using a unique string, choosed by the site owner an operated by a Registry. Domain names are also used for different applications today, beyond the scope of websites. Domain names are bound to the rules of DNS - Domain Name System which are running on name servers like Bind. Domains can have many suffixes, representing gTLD (global TLDs), ccTLDs (countries) and goverments (.GOV domains). Registration of domains is done through various site providing the service, which are usually registered together with hosting services.

How much a domain name costs?

  • Domain Names are priced by their respective registrars, some of them like .co.uk or .tv use registrars based in their respective countries, bound to their country laws and regulations. You should carefully inspect the registrar's terms of usage in order to understand all implications of the choosen domain TLD/ccTLD.

Which Domain Name should I choose? Are there SEO or other benefits for choosing different domain names?
  • Well, first thing is to find a free domain name. Under the .com registration is quite hard to find a catchy domain today. There are also a lot of new domain suffixes such as .xyz , .bar , .lawyer and many more. Try to find a domain suffix that is close to your interest, country or makes sense (like gofor.it). You should try to get your business name in the domain and naturally your brand name. Please make sure you're not infringing others copyrights or trademark when choosing a domain name.

Is the domain mine forever? For how long it's registered?

  • The basic registration is for one year. Depending on the registrar, you can register a domain for up to 10 years. Some registrars like the .IL registrar allow only 5 years of registrarion. You can add additional years (up to the max allowed) anythim from our client area, regardless of the period remaining until the domain expiration date.

What happens after a domain name expires?

  • After a domain expiration the domain enters a grace period. In that period, usually 30 days the domain is accessible depending on the registrars. .COM domains will immediatelly cease working and may start redirect to the registrars default page. .IL domains will keep working normally during this time and other domains may too, depending on their registrar policy. After the Grace Period the domain enters Redemption period. This a 30 days period in which the registrar actually owns your domain and it can be released back to you for a redemption fee. Redemtion fees can go from 70$ and can reach 400$ for some domains. After the redemption period the domain is released back to the available domains pool and can be registered by anyone. Please note - There a are companies waiting for domains to be released in order to gain their traffic or to resell the domain name so if your domain is important to you, make sure to renew it on time! We have no way of lowering the redemption fee since it'd not set by us...
